a sudden expedience ( wife words)
Hey you were away a whole day so,
I painted that shape and I learned the lines of the color in your skin. It was hard to admit that the lines were as much as an illusion as the thought of form… I miss you and your flight. I missed you as you slept.
It is true we still reach for each other. It is documented, and scored.
Every photograph and every look matches the air forced from my lungs..one foot then two… one mile then two…one prayer and the things we don’t say.. become the things we get, the things we needed…… that boy is staying home while the other grows to leave and that fear is snubbed out. That smile is searing the fresh peeled garden snack and I am changing my aura standing at your gate. The things I prayed for years ago with those songs, your breast no burden as we are the composition, it is a new house now in that photo. I watch you put it in the frame.
This house, our house..is your house
Our hands, these hands for your hand…
The bravery of your neck and the torrential blessing of your heart. We are the struggle solved and this is the barrel’s landing….. find land again and run toward me. Land again tossing me in your palm, one quarter turn then two.. A million-watt marker of the shine of your speech. That voice talking to me that way and the yes…
